Rice Fiesta at Daqiaotou Commercial District This Sunday

Entering its 13th year, the Traditional Rice Cuisine Cultural Festival will take place this year at Daqiaotou Commercial District on Sunday, June 17.

This year, the public will have the chance to experience hands-on wrapping of various types of zongzi (glutinous rice with stuffing) on the eve of the Dragon Boat Festival. For a registration fee of NT$150, participants will receive the ingredients to make 10 delicious zongzi during a DIY class and a raffle ticket. The deadline for registration is Friday, June 15.

Furthermore, visitors can also purchase NT$150 festival coupons on site. These coupons could be used for exchanging 10 rice-related merchandise, including various kinds of zongzi such as healthy zongzi, tapioca zongzi, onion zongzi, mochi, and more. They can also use the coupon to attend the class offered by zongzi experts, whom the organizers have invited to teach visitors how to make this delicacy.

There are also free samples of rice cuisine for visitors to try out at the festival, including sweet mung bean soup, grass jelly ice, and more. Individuals who have time can also attend free classes on how to make scented sachets and paper dragon.

Daqiaotou (near Yanping N. Road Sec.3 and Dihua Street Sec.2) is located between two major communities which played important roles in Taipei City’s development – Dadaocheng and Dalongdong. While one excels in commerce and the other in education, Daqiaotou was known for its rice-related businesses.
