Taipei to Bring Hot Prizes to Beijing Tourism Expo

With the opening of the Beijing International Tourism Expo 2012 on June 15, the Department of Information and Tourism gave local media a sneak peak on what Taipei has to offer during a press event in the Chinese city on June 14.

To the audience’ amazement, Information and Tourism Commissioner Chao Hsin-ping donned a bright red dress decorated by hand-drawing pictures of some of Taipei’s well-known landmarks. Another focus of attention was a gold necklace worn by the commissioner boasting the theme of “Taipei, pineapples, and pineapple cakes.”

According to Chao, mainland visitors who have visited Taipei will have a chance to bring home a gold necklace—worth RMB 20,000—by sending in the photos taken during their stay at the city. Submissions will be accepted between June 20 and August 30. A selection of prizes is also available for visitors who take part in the games at the Taipei booth during the expo, including Taipei-Beijing round-tip ticket, silver jewelries, etc.

Another item that stole the spotlight during the press event was a “Golden Taipei City” built with 3,000 pineapples and featuring major Taipei City landmarks such as Taipei 101, CKS Memorial Hall, and Miramar Ferris Wheel. The art piece will be displayed at Taipei booth throughout the Beijing event between June 15 and 17.

Chao pointed out that the main theme for this year’s Taipei booth is “The Best of Taipei.” The major theme is further divided into four sub-categories: Artistic Experience, Shopping Frenzy, Classic Tourist Attractions, and Taiwanese Cuisine.

She invited those interested in taking a trip to the capital of Taiwan to explore the highlighted spots, including Treasure Hill Artist Village, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, eslite bookstores, Taipei 101, Beitou, Dintaifung, and more.
