Taipei-Seoul Direct Flights Launched

Mayor Hau Lung-bin joined President Ma Ying-jeou in attending the ceremony marking the launch of direct flights between Taipei Songshan Airport and Gimpo International Airport in Seoul on April 30. It is the last step towards Ma’s greater vision of “Golden Aviation Circle in Northeast Asia” following the establishment of direct flights between Songshan-Haneda (Tokyo) and Songshan-Hongqiao (Shanghai).

Witnessing the milestone moment, Hau noted that he is glad to see the realization of “One Day Living Circle” connecting Taipei, Shanghai, Tokyo, and Seoul. Business travellers and tourists alike will benefit from the time saved while commuting between these cities, thus helping to stimulate tourism industry and boost commercial activities.

For instance, Hau elaborated, visitors from Seoul will be able to arrange a one-day trip to Taipei starting with some sightseeing, shopping, and wrap up the day by indulging their appetite at night markets before returnig home in about two hours’ time.

Hau further indicated that the city government is working with the central government in an effort to drive development of the peripheral area of Songshan Airport. Plans include the construction of more hotels, office buildings, duty-free shops, and tourist information centers that will strengthen the role of the Airport as a transportation hub.
