City Releases Weight Management App

To help residents lose weight and promote a healthy lifestyle, Taipei City Government introduced its own weight management app during a press conference on April 24.

The new tool for weight management is a follow-up to the “101 Weight Loss Program” introduced by the city government last year. The successful campaign attracted over 110,000 participants, helping them trim a cumulative 133 tons of excess weight.

Mayor Hau Lung-bin noted that obesity often leads to many other health problems and noted that over 40 percent of residents above the age of 18 are overweighed. He hopes that the new app introduced by the Department of Health (DOH) can help users to become more fit.

The mayor also took the opportunity to introduce some of Taipei’s fitness-oriented facilities including the 20-plus hiking trails, riverside bicycle lanes, and 12 district sports centers.

According to DOH, the new app allows users to keep track of his or her current fitness status, as well as offering options for meal management, weight control, and exercise tracking. The database includes over 50 items related with health and fitness, helping users calculate the amount of calories burned during exercise sessions.
