Calligraphy Exhibition at Plum Garden

Starting April 20, the Department of Information and Tourism (TPEDOIT) is holding a series of activities to promote a calligraphy exhibition marking the 134th birthday of the late calligrapher Yu You-ren at the Plum Garden in Beitou District.

According to Information and Tourism Commissioner Chao Hsin-ping, Yu was a prolific calligrapher who had produced a great amount of works over a span of 70 years. The exhibition, lasting through December 30, will offer the public a glimpse into the master’s overwhelming works on various mediums – couplets, fans, banners, letters, and more.

The first 100 people to visit the Plum Garden on April 28 and 29 will receive a special souvenir. Individuals are also encouraged to come visit during Mother’s Day weekend on May 12 and 13; there will be calligraphers performing at the site, giving away their works comprising square scrolls bearing a single Chinese character to the audience.

In addition, interactive games will be held on May 19 and 20 at the building, where participants have the opportunity of receiving pineapple or breakfast vouchers. TPEDOIT invites the public to sample the delicacies while appreciating Yu’s cursive strokes at Plum Garden.
