Mayor Urges Athletes to Go All Out for NHSAG Medals

With the 2012 National High School Athletic Games (NHSAG) set to open on April 21, Mayor Hau Lung-bin presented the city flag to Taipei’s delegation during a ceremony at Shipai Junior High School on April 18.

Lin You-ting, a student from Datong Senior High School who won shot put gold medal during last year’s competition, received the flag on behalf of the team.

According to Hau, Taipei garnered a total of 210 medals at the games in 2011, among them 74 gold medals. With the City hosting the event this year, Hau is confident that the athletes will put on an even better performance. The mayor also reminded the athletes to demonstrate their sportsmanship and hospitality towards contestants from around the country.

Citing the achievements of golfer Yani Tseng, pitcher Wang Chien-ming, and basketball player Jeremy Lin, Hau emphasized the virtue of perseverance and urged the attending students to stick to their goals, fulfilling their dreams step-by-step.

With the Universiade coming to Taipei, Hau encouraged the participants of NHSAG to bring their potential into full play and fight for the honor of the island at the major sports event taking place in 2017.
