2012 Foreign Workers’ Poetry and Essay Writing Contest Now Open for Submissions

The Department of Labor (DOL) announced that the 2012 Foreign Workers’ Poetry and Essay Writing Contest is now open for submissions!

Entering its eleventh year, the Foreign Workers’ Poetry and Essay Writing Contest is an annual competition showcasing the works of migrant workers in Taipei. With pieces ranging from poetry to short stories, these literary pieces spotlight the emotions and thoughts of those leaving their home and families behind to work in Taiwan. Their works also allow local readers a glimpse at the underlying sentiments and thoughts of these hardworking people.

The contest is looking for works falling under the following categories: “Poetry” and “Essay.” The length of works submitted to the “Essay” category – whether essays or short stories – should be no longer than 1,000 words. The first place winner of each category will receive cash award of NT$10,000!

The submitted package should include the work, along with basic information of the contestant – full name, mailing address, passport number, telephone number, short biography, photos, etc.

Please mail the package to Foreign Laborers Affairs Division, 5F, No.21, Section.1, Dihua Street, Taipei City 103. DOL should receive the mail no later than May 31st , 2012.
