Adjustment to MRT Lines to be Implemented

Mayor Hau Lung-bin announced on February 29 that changes will be made to MRT routes following the completion of MRT Dongmen Station in September this year.

According to Hau, the addition of MRT Dongmen Station will allow Zhonghe Line to be connected with Xinzhuang-Luzhou Line, thus helping to relieve the traffic at Taipei Main Station.

Once the stretch is completed, Hau pointed out, passengers in Zhonghe area who are heading for Taipei Main Station can transfer at Guting Station to take Xindian Line. The train headway of Zhonghe Line will be reduced to 3-4 minutes from 6-8 minutes.

For eastbound passengers on Zhonghe Line, they will be able to make a transfer at Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station instead of having to transfer at Taipei Main Station that takes 5-6 extra minutes during their travel.

To minimize the impact on residents in Zhonghe and Yonghe areas, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation will also consider adding extra trains to run from Taipower Building Station to Beitou Station.

Trumpeting that the route adjustment will offer passengers “less travel time, reduced fees, and a more convenient transfer experience,” the mayor stressed the measure is made for the benefit of the majority of passengers. He hopes those affected will understand and continue to support the MRT service.
